FCC clarifies term 'base station' to include DAS and small cells
The Federal Communications Commission has clarified the term "base station" to include Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and small cells, as part of its new Broadband Acceleration Initiative actions that clarify rules to speed wireless infrastructure deployment and move to expedite temporary cell towers. “This Commission clearly gets it. It has laid out an impressive agenda to promote infrastructure deployment right when it’s needed most," said PCIA President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein. "They are looking ahead, be it temporary towers that help ensure consumers have access to wireless services during political conventions, sporting events, and other big gatherings that bring so many of us together, or small cells and DAS that work in conjunction with towers to provide wireless coverage and capacity."
