Among the buzz at the conference that annually draws more than 100,000 attendees were announcements from vendors and infrastructure companies about DAS solutions, virtualization and smart city applications.

AGL Media Group and RCR Wireless News both covered infrastructure news emerging from the show. Following are some of the announcements from WIA member companies at Mobile World Congress.

SOLiD GENESIS DAS

SOLiD introduced its compact, 5G-ready GENESIS DAS to meet the needs of the middleprise and other large venues, such as airports, subways and stadiums. GENESIS DAS delivers an enterprise-ready solution that can be used out of the box and provides support for structured cabling solutions to reduce installation time and costs. In addition, the solution provides support for either GENESIS RAX as a signal source or other industry standard in-building signal source platforms and a clear upgrade path for existing customers with the remote radio and amplifier units being compatible with the legacy SOLiD ALLIANCE platform.

“For the middleprise to overcome current in-building wireless challenges it’s important to deliver innovative, low cost, and structured cabling supported solutions that are enterprise-ready,” said Dr. Seung Hee Lee, SOLiD’s CEO. “That is exactly why we developed the GENESIS DAS — to provide the middleprise with a solution that is ready to use right out of the box, supports structured cabling common in enterprises, and provides investment protection.”

CommScope Era

CommScope showcased its next-generation in-building platform, CommScope Era, an all-digital C-RAN antenna system that leverages wireless operators’ initiatives to centralize and virtualize baseband radio assets. Era enables operators to deploy a centralized headend that serves multiple buildings, or even to tap capacity from the operator’s existing centralized radio access network (C-RAN) hubs. Era’s innovative Wide-area Integration Node (WIN) resides in the C-RAN hub and routes baseband capacity to a distribution point within the served building or campus. Era allocates baseband capacity where it is needed while reducing the amount of onsite head-end equipment and the amount of fiber needed for signal transport by up to 90 percent.
